Whit and his father Todd travel to Cambodia with 2 amazing sponsors, Eve Blossom and Cameron Sinclair
this part of cambodia through whit’s eyes involved watching his dad eat bugs and spiders…
Beef with Red Ants : delicious actually. couldn’t really even taste the little guys
Crispy Crickets : not quite as delicious but tolerable. chewy, with hints of chili pepper
Fried Tarantulas : actually kept down 3 oily legs. no abdomen or other big body parts
… whit laughed at his father, not with him

then off to the lulan weaving center, where we watched firsthand how the silk is slowly turned into beautiful fabrics : the washing, the twisting, the spinning, the dying, the warping, the weft and the weaving. these people really are true artists, using centuries old traditional techniques to create intricate and beautiful textiles.
the rhythm of the place is amazing, just quiet craft and respect for each other and the process. whit must have taken at least 147 pictures here. seriously. please check out the link to learn more about lulan and eve’s mission…
here’s the hotel quay from the outside… and that might just be our elephant off to work in the morning.
traditional khmer sweets greeted us at the quay hotel. delicious, gone in about 2.5 minutes. whit thought the tray looked like a boat, which makes sense : the hotel overlooks the tonle sap river.
this elephant was really sweet. she spent most of her life lifting timber in the forests. now she’s semi retired and walks to work, giving tourist rides around the park in padded shoes. told whit i want a job like that someday. he just kinda looked at me. here he is feeding her little bananas
we land in phnom penh and are greeted by eve, our most excellent host. she and whit start chatting and the next i know, we are riding an elephant. nice.
whit quickly became fascinated with all the different colors of bangkok taxis. here is his photo quilt…
sitting on the runway at seoul, this took a while to capture : those planes were fast and papa bought whit’s camera on sale. busted.
